THAMES COROMANDEL DISTRICT COUNCIL
The Pauanui Information Centre acknowledges the support of an annual grant from the Thames Coromandel District Council ratepayers. All Council information can be found at www.tcdc.govt.nz
Care & Cancer Support
Tairua and Pauanui have a support group to support and assist patients and families through illness. The volunteers provide a wide range of support services including helping with care, child minding and domestic duties, assisting with loan equipment and offer their help with empathy, respect and confidentiality.
Churches
The interdenominational community church is in the town centre and hosts Sunday services each week. See the notice board outside the church in the village centre for services and times.
Civil Defence
Be prepared. Keep informed. Listen to the local radio stations and sign up for emergency alerts. Visit the Thames District Council webpage www.TCDC.govt.nz for all council services.
Coastguard
Pauanui has a well-established Volunteer Coastguard team operational all year round. Membership forms are available from the Information Centre.
Community Hub
Located opposite the Village Centre, next to the Information Centre and Library in the TCDC purpose-built Community building. The meeting room is available for hire with a minimal booking fee. Bookings are made through the Information Centre.
First Response
There is a local volunteer 24-hour service who are highly trained to administer advanced first aid and life support medical care
Fire and Emergency Services
The local volunteer fire service is highly trained to deal with a wide range of emergencies. The Pauanui team have many years of experience in their crew. For emergencies dial 111 and ask for FIRE.
Hobby and Social Clubs
Pauanui has a thriving social community. There are approximately 50 clubs meeting throughout the year covering an eclectic mix of leisure activities and interests.
Library
This is an independent library, run by volunteers with assistance from Thames Coromandel District Council.
Medical Centre
The Medical Centre has a surgery on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for doctor consultations and nurse appointments. A 24-hour Triage nurse is always available by phoning (07) 864 8404.
Menz Shed
A non-profit organisation for the guys in the community to meet in a convivial atmosphere. A place to learn trade skills or simply relax in the company of like-minded men.
Neighbourhood Support
Pauanui has an active neighbourhood support group, with a number of street wardens working to keep the community a safe place to live.
Pauanui Community Office/Residents and Ratepayers Association
A voluntary run organisation which works for and on behalf of the community. The Community Office acts as the interface and lobbyist between community and Council to ensure Pauanui ratepayers’ voice is heard and needs met. All ratepayers are encouraged to belong for a minimal annual fee.
Schools/Pre School
Pauanui has a thriving pre-school located near the skate bowl park. Hikuai School caters for students from Year 1-8, with the benefit of small classes.
Surf Life Savers
The Trust Waikato Pauanui Surf Life Saving Club is an incorporated society formed under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908. The club currently has around 50 volunteer lifeguards who patrol the beach each weekend from early December to late February, as well as Easter and Labour weekends.
